What is wynnum like to live
Thanks Claire. We just moved to Wynnum West recently due to recommendations from family and we are absolutely loving the area! We are super close to the motorway, have absolutely lovely neighbours and just dash 5 minutes down the road to reach the bay.
Ideal for a young family, quiet and friendly with amenities shops, trains, buses and motorway close by. A five minute drive will see you strolling along the jetty and not for one moment missing out on all that Wynnum alone has to offer by way of parks and restaurants.
In fact, if you choose Wynnum West, not only are you closer to many sporting venues such as Active Arena sports, the BMX track and many bike paths but you are also benefiting from a more direct access in to the City. Housing is also considered more affordable but non-the-less attractive as its counterparts in Wynnum and Manly.
Come the turning of the seasons, you are met with a myriad of trees exploding in colour and fragrance, from the Frangipanies to the stunning Jacarandas which line the roads and streets. It is noisy, and it is dirty. Do not let people here delude you. Not all bad, it is a cheap place to live and great for students and hipsters looking for a noisy cheap lifestyle. Wynnum West has good shopping, not the best transport links as no train li e but is virt drive from waterfront for well priced housing.
Wynnum West is improving slowly and has some new pockets. There are no train stations called "Wynnum West" but that is because they still use the historical suburb name of "Lindum" for our station.
There are several train stations in walking distance that service Wynnum West and surrounding suburbs so im confused by this comment. Just wanted to clear up for others. Wynnum West is a great area with it's locality near the bay, as well as the city. You're able to have quiet bayside living away from the hustle and bustle of the city, while still having quick and easy access to the city.
My 3rd Preference of living in Brisbane! A new long- awaited Cinema is currently under construction that will complement the local hangouts and bring further businesses into the area, so watch this space! All popular sports are both played and supported by the locals, young and old. Our patriotic ways are alive and well. Never before has our town experienced a building explosion of new homes and high rise apartments and along with the very fashionable Queenslanders, and pre and post war renovated charmers that dot our tree lined streets the mix of architecture has something for everyone.
Oct 04, Reasonable commute from coastal location to Everton Hills? See All Brisbane Conversations. What are the top 10 suburbs to live in, in order? What to pack? View Hotel. The Manly Hotel. Grove Manor. The Point Brisbane Hotel.
Rydges South Bank Brisbane. Oaks Brisbane on Charlotte Suites. Hilton Brisbane. Finally, I'm always out and about - and nosey - so would be happy to drive past a couple of streets for you if it would help No - we are pretty likely to be sending our son there - visiting for a tour next week so can get back to you on that!
Funnily enough no I have a few friends who live in some of the nicest areas of Manly and they all share the same view as I mentioned earlier. If anything, it's people living out of the area who run the area down most of all It's difficult to say who's right But we've found it all good so far :jiggy:And I'll definitely be the first to voice it on here if it changes, I can tell you .
We currently live in Thornlands which is nice but just a little bit too quiet for us! Wynnum is a older suburb with alot of older style queenslanders, I think the only thing Wynnum has going for it is the trainstation IMO there is not that much to do unless you like to spend day's and nights in the foreshore park!
In fact the whole of the Bayside area is like a giant retirement village. I personally would look at suburbs slightly closer to the CBD. Each to his own We love the family vibe and the fact that there's loads to do all around the bayside area! Wynum is a good place to live like any part of a town there is the rough looking areas but i have never heard of any issues in wynum, my wife and i and our little 4yr old will often go for walks to the end of the pier at wynum with a hot chocolate and biscuits and just listen to the sea and smell the sea air then walk back to the car and drive home by which time our boy has fallen asleep.
As for the train station i have not heard of any attacks issues or anything of the sort happening there, yes there is parks there and they are clean and well maintained.
As for rentals well it depends on what your job situation is if your working in the city you want to be close to a train station or even a bus interchange, most of the rentals over here are for 6mths and i would recomend going for 6 mths and not tying yourself into a 12 mth contract because after 6 mths you will have more of a feel for the place and if it suits your needs, there is a few childcare centres in wynum for your children and the usual schools.
Take care enjoy your first step in Australia yes it is a long step but they get shorter as time goes by. We have found the foreshore parks to be wonderful and we have not had any problems there. However, after 8months of going to the parks we are somewhat bored of it now. We have tried the wading pool but the thick black mud in it just smells too much. My older two children are 13 and 14 and have been bored silly the last 8 months.
The high schools in the area are terrible but unfortunatly we couldnt afford the private schools at the time. We havenever found the place to be family orientated, maybeits us. The shops in Wynnum are all op shops and cafes. After 2 months I never really shopped there again. Carindale has a good shopping complex about 20 mins away. The nearest cinema for the kids is also here.
It takes a good 30mins to get to the city from here with tons of traffic lghts. All of our neighbours here are retired. Hardly see any kids down our street and most of the kids at the park come from away on day trips.
Anyway after eight months of total boredom, and horrific schooling were relocating to the sunshine coast. So excited we feel that we will be finally living the dream lol! And i meant to add about the trains. For the first two months we were here i commuted to work on the train. Im a nurse and do shifts but after the first week refused to travel on the train at night or early evening.
