Is it possible to return to the soul cairn

I've not finished the main story yet but when you are in the cairn, Serana's mother says herself that you can return whenever you want. So yes. It is a bit of a pain in the A though. There's nothing on it, so it would seems its only purpose is to give you quick access back into the Soul Cairn.
